Dana Chiara, like all our employees, begins her day early. Once she walks in the double doors of the Dustless facility, she starts off her day by saying “hi to all the awesome ladies” she works with in the accounting department. Passing the stuffed cougar in the lobby, she heads into the office she shares with CEO Colleen Loveless, a friend she has had for twenty years. Dana wastes no time getting right to work in the Accounts Payable sector – checking her e-mail, adjusting issues with employee time clocks, and getting to customer invoices.
Her day really starts though with her family. With a husband in education and three teenagers to get off to schools in Carbon County, she carries a lot more on her plate than meets the eye – both at work and at home. The fact that she helps lead an amazing family carries over into the office, where she is universally known for her kind and ever helpful personality. Who she is all began in Cache Valley, Utah.
A Cache Valley Girl
Dana grew up in the northern part of Utah, not far from the Idaho border. This area is known as ‘Cache Valley’, including Logan and surrounding towns which focus primarily on agriculture. Her father was a Marine who had completed his service by the time she was born. He worked as a well driller and Dana “was his right hand man.”
“I went everywhere with him, hunting, around the yard, I was his little buddy”, she said of her relationship with her dad. “I was driving the old Dodge when I was really young. He hiked everywhere, he walks everywhere still. He would walk me to school, I’m still a fast walker.” Dana would carry that love for her vehicle and for adventuring the outdoors as she grew older.
She met Jared Chiara at Utah State University in Logan – they both had Jeep Cherokee’s. “That’s what really pulled us together,” she mentioned. Jared studied education and Dana studied liberal arts and they decided to move down closer to Jared’s hometown of Helper – just a short drive from the Dustless facility. Dana said of Carbon County, “I’ve grown to really like it here.”
A Sense of Adventure
Living in rural Utah instilled a sense of adventure in Dana. In her free time she enjoys taking her dog up on the trails above town to go for a walk or a run. She enjoys reading and crafting – particularly the joy of making things.
“I’ll try something for a while and them I’m over it, I like to try something else…I like lots of different things. It’s really fulfilling to create things.”
Dana stated that her favorite foods include Indian and Thai food, and that her destination of choice would be Iceland. Although it has become popularized in recent years, she has wanted to visit Iceland for a very long time. “I’ve always wanted to go to Iceland, and there’s trails – you can hike across the country if you want. I’d love to go.” The hiking and backpacking aspect of Iceland is something she looks forward to in particular.
Educator to Dustless Employee
After moving to Carbon County, Dana began work as an elementary school aide. “It was perfect,” she said, “I was at the school where my kids were.” Upon mentioning her growing kids, she remarked lightheartedly, “that’s an adventure”.
Just over a year ago, Dana joined the team at Love-Less Ash/Dustless Technologies. She took on an important role in Accounts Payable. When asked to summarize her job, she said, “Multi-faceted. There are lots of little things to it that you wouldn’t realize…there’s always something new that I’m learning…patents or NAFTA.”
When the aging report is all clear and everything is in on time…I love that.”
Her director and CFO Celeste Sorensen stated of Dana, “She’s getting really good at filling in the gaps and all the odds and ends that keep the business moving smoothly. She wears many hats. She’s really awesome at following up on things that you’ve asked her and forgotten. She manages time well and works very efficiently…I appreciate all she does, it keeps me afloat.”
We truly appreciate Dana here at the company. We really would not be able to do what we do without her – she is essential. Thank you Dana!
Each month we will write about another employee so you can get to know our team. We think they are all great, and we hope by reading about our friends you will get to know our company better, too.
