Jeff Barlow often rises earlier and goes to bed later than most men. This isn’t necessarily because he has a demanding job; rather, he is often exploring the wilds of the western US at times when most others are asleep, a time when wildlife is active. This is because Jeff Barlow is a lifetime hunter and wilderness expert.
When he comes into the office, he starts out by checking his e-mails. He began with the company over four years ago as a Project Manager in the Research and Development Department. Now he works in the Sales and Marketing Department, managing a key region of the Mountain West for the company which involves travel to places like Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana.
When asked what he does after work to relax when he gets home and kicks off his hunting boots, he replied, “I put my hiking boots on most of the time.” That’s because the outdoors is not simply a hobby – it means much more to him.
A Dixie Boy
Jeff grew up surrounded by red rock, high desert, and towering mountains in St. George, Utah – a region often referred to as Dixie. He lived in Southern Utah his entire life, with a love for baseball and basketball. Attending Dixie High School and Dixie College (now Dixie State University), he would graduate with a degree in Business Administration.
His father also instilled in him a love for the outdoors.
“[I] grew up hunting from as early as I can remember it, going hunting with my Dad.”
Many years later, he would be performing the same role model as a father to a large family.
Opportunities in Eastern Utah
Although he is deeply rooted in Dixie, Jeff and his wife Dee found their way to Price, Utah 19-20 years ago. Jeff worked for a company called “Feature Films for Families”. However, change is always imminent.
Jeff and Dee moved back to St. George to complete schooling. It wasn’t long before the call to return to Price came. 10 years ago, a good friend needed help with his business in Price, so Jeff leaped at the opportunity. He loves this place.
The access to the outdoors. In an hour one direction I can be on the desert, and in one hour in the other direction I can be at 10,000 feet in the mountains.– Jeff Barlow
Nimrod Outdoors – A Family Venture
Jeff is the father to several boys and, much like many fathers of the modern day, found a clash of interest. His young boys were active in social media and he was active in the outdoors. He struck an idea, and created Nimrod Outdoors, a social media group that shares a love for nature.
That following has grown into the thousands with people across the US; however, Jeff revealed that his true purpose in starting up Nimrod was so that he could spend time with his boys on something they all love.
They can now be seen across YouTube tracking moose, Facebook spotting bucks, and at local fairs and events selling outdoor equipment. All because a father wanted a way to bond with his boys.
Off The Job
The first thing Jeff mentioned when asked what he likes to do for fun is his love for supporting his kids and all their activities. “All their sports, scouting. Outdoor activities, from baseball to wrestling to mountain biking to everything.”
Jeff then paused and remarked on his love for dancing with his wife. He said if he could go anywhere in the world he would take his wife to Hawaii, but he would also like to visit Alaska.
A little known fact about Jeff is that he “love(s) to sing…I can handle about every music except for rap. I’m not a rap guy. It’s an acquired flavor.”
Jeff also enjoys attending LA Dodgers games and spring training, as can be seen by the Dodger’s helmet on his desk.
He also spent some time living in Mexico where he became fluent in the Spanish language.
A Valued Employee
A close coworker mentioned about Jeff, “Outdoors would have to be in there…family, hunting, and sociability.”
His direct supervisor said, “I was excited that he wanted to come over [to Sales and Marketing]. We thought that he was a great fit for sales because he is so personable and works so well with the customers.”
We enjoy having Jeff here at Dustless – he is a great individual to be around, and he enjoys it also. He said his favorite part of working for the company is, “the people here. We just have an awesome group of people here at Dustless – from owners, to management, to fellow coworkers”. We think so too – thank you Jeff!
Each month we will write about another employee so you can get to know our team. We think they are great, and we hope by reading about our friends you will get to know our company better, too.
